Maria Latchia is an Intensive Care Unit nurse. Born in Enfield of Middlesex London in 1988 and brought up in Cyprus since 1991. Started studying Nursing, in Greece on 2006 and worked as a student nurse since 2007. In 2010 she graduated as BSc nurse and continued working as an RN in a private clinic. In 2011 she started working as a nurse for the Nicosia General Hospital in the orthopaedics ward for a year and later on, got transferred, after a request, to the Intensive Care Unit and worked there ever since. In 2014 after 18 months of studies she acquired a Master’s Degree on Health Management. A year after, she applied for a Philosophy Degree on Palliative Care at the Technological University of Cyprus, in which she still attempts. She speaks Greek and English fluently can understand, communicate and write in both languages. Experienced in giving presentations for large audiences both at work and conferences. Additional certifications she earned concerning Nursing is the Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN), Training on the Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Nursing Training in CRRT treatment in administrating Citrate, she is also an Advanced Life Support Provider (ALS) as well as trained in Key elements on Organ Donation. In November 2016, she participated in a course on Empowering Learning Environments in Nursing Education an Intensive Program which held place in Turku – Finland. She also participates in the follow up team of a new research called CREACTIVE which was launched in 2015. She is as well a member of the newly created team of Compassionate Care in the ICU of General Hospital of Nicosia. Her current focus is the same as her team mates, give a holistic care to patients and their families that are in need. Treating a collection of symptoms with state of the Art medicine equipment is not the only goal, treating patients and families in a holistic way and find a way in teaching the professionals to do so, is the ultimate goal.
