
Alice Araujo holds a doctorate in Communication Studies with a focus on intercultural communication from the University of Kansas, USA. She taught at the university level in the United States for nearly 20 years, serving asaAssociate professor of Communication and chair of the Communication Department during her tenure at Mary Baldwin University in Virginia. Alice currently teaches Clinical Communication at St. George’s University of London Medical Programem at the University of Nicosia Medical School campus in Cyprus. She held several national offices at the National Communication Association (Washington, DC), including as chair of the Small Colleges and University Section and served as program reviewer for the Health Communication Section and the Disability Caucus, among others. Her current research interests include the communication of genuine empathy in healthcare as well as gender differences in the communication of empathy toward perceived adversarial groups, for which she received two grants from the National Institutes of Health.
